Paris statues

Archangel Michael, outside Saint Chappelle in Paris. I think he used to be on the roof, now he's braced upright on the ground.

He can fly off if he wants to, of course. He held still for me here.

Tech pen and wash on Aquabee sketchpaper.

A statue in the Latin Quarter, just off the Blvd. St. Germain des Pres.

I guess he's a griffin, but the ones I've seen before have lion legs. Does anyone know what you call a flying snake/lion?

I just looked it up on my Palm Dictionary (just for confirmation..) There are 2 spellings: Griffin OR Gryphon. It's a winged monster with an eagle-like head and body of a lion. Okay, so yours also has the head of a lion.... sorry, that's as close as I can get for you.
Great drawing, too!

Bonny in BC, Canada

So this was a confused French sculptor? Too many aperitifs, perhaps :-)

I found in an encyclopedia that griffins are "occasionally pictured with a serpent's tail." So this is an occasional griffin :-)

I'm thinking he might be a chimera.

I love the way you write "tech pen and wash on" &tc. I think that's so classy. So Real Artist!

I'd say that's a fine looking griffin!
