not quite a doodle, not quite a composition

What the published art journaling books call doodles is not what I think of, the things I produce while on the phone along the margins of scrap paper.

But I'll call this a doodle, even though it's more "composed" in its way.

doodle squares

Doodling with pencil and markers as I listen to a video, resisting alignment and squaring.

Click to embiggen, as Yarn Harlot would say.

a doodle, a face, a shoe

Filling a page. I did the face from imagination and the premarked lines on the paper turned into a scar in just the right place.

a doodle and a face

I didn't have to pause the video. In Danny Gregory's interviews of the people in his book, An Illustrated Journey, each person faces the camera for so long as they listen and talk, they move very little.

Great book, great interviews about each person's process and gear. And this new doodle that I'm fascinated with making.

doodling

Random shapes and textures, using a super pen from JetPens.com. It's a double-ended fiber tip. One end is gray, one is black.

This is in a sketchbook with a spiral, so the scan isn't light-tight. I kept the blue tint and whitened the background.

doodling to Stargate Atlantis

There's wraithe in there, and running through the woods, and Ronan swinging his dreads around. See?

If you don't watch the show, never mind :-)
