Four imagined flowers

Inspired by a similar piece, I created this one.

I did the contours with 4B Wolff pencil (carbon), and was surprised the watercolor didn't dissolve it. Added a bit of ink to define the leaves.

I started sketching and didn't plan to add fluid. I don't want to use good paper for every doodle, but sometimes I end up doing much more than I planned and wish I'd used better paper.

lifting power

These paperwhite bulbs were below the rim of the bowl when I started them. They've all pushed down long sturdy roots, lifting themselves right out of the rocks, and beyond.

Until the power outage, I'd only missed posting about 3 days since November 13, 2007. So now I start again, knocked down but not out by a major ice storm.

Doodling on 140# Saunders Waterford paper. My next year's goal is to work on better paper, opening up to more flexibility and techniques in layering and lifting.

It's a goal, nothing more.

two-handed wash

I drew blindly and fast with a clear wax crayon. Then dipped a lefthand brush in red, a righthand brush in blue, and swished simultaneously.

shaky, hanging in there

I drew this in the 30 minutes I was in the waiting room, during the 4 hour procedure to get a new crown.

It was for a bicuspid. They told me they'd never made such a small crown in office before, that 6 months ago they wouldn't have attempted it. LOTS of difficulty and tension, but it worked beautifully.

Modern dental technology is amazing and I have a great new tooth. But wow, it was a tough session.

quick and flowery

Three sketches in 30 minutes fills 3 days of posting. Efficient practice, I'd say.

Especially when I can set them up for pre-posting while I'm out looking for new subjects.

To manage a post a day for month after month means I sometimes just imagine flowers and a vase, to get by.
