Lizzie kicks up her toe

As I titled this, I wondered, why do people only ever kick up their heels in the cliche phrase?

But Lizzie is only doing a one-foot kick. I put her up on a shelf of slanted papers.

I used gouache out of the tube, thick, no medium, with a big round brush. Then I used some water to melt into some areas.

Just to push paint around. On gessoed cardboard.

In the journal, with a General's 2B graphite stick. I never quite knew what the mark would be from the square-ended stick.

The blue comes from a light-struck scan, but I like it.

I never played with dolls as a child. As my archived drawings show, my longtime companion was a teddy bear.

But as I roam flea markets and shops now, I look for interesting things to draw. This cloth doll wanted to be a life model.

Her hair is dark red yarn, so she may be Lizzie (for alizarin crimson).

For some reason she's crowded up against the binding of the journal.
