foliage challenge

I don't have the patience to draw plants, but attempted a quick version of the begonia leaf shapes. This coloration is just a amateur's invention. The actual leaf is a bluish-green with a silver sheen, with deep carmine edges and centers. w/c in the Aquabee Superdeluxe journal.

I liked how the paint flowed and mixed to make a very accurate color like the aged copper bell.

But the rest of the page had plants and a sideways roof.

A more accurate sketch of all the blades than I would have expected. I must be developing patience with plant drawing!

bloomin' thing

It sits in the kitchen window and gets water once a week. No lavish attention, but it blooms regularly anyway.

It deserves a repotting and fertilizer. Scheduled for when enough snow melts that I can get to my potting soil in the shed.

I seldom draw plants up close. All those similar leaves and intricate overlaps are boring to me. But once in a while I give it a try.

Listening to Leonard Cohen's music helped.  Hallelujah!

I don't like drawing all the leaves on a plant, so draw them fast to get it over with and also to keep honing my skill to put down the (close to) right shape with the first stroke.

The euphorbia is a sculpture in green. I simplified its form a bit.

Painting without pre-drawing, mostly imagined, based on a plant that's been outside all summer.

I actually did glazing here, for once. I went outside to rake leaves between painting dabs. I hate waiting for things to dry.
