Gouache bottle

More experimenting with gouache and mixing from a 3-color triad. Attempting glass here, I can really see the opaqueness of the medium instead of w/c's transparency.

W/N tube gouache on 120# paper.

Nita -- I really like this and all the recent entries on your blog. The warm and cool contrasts on this bottle are great!

Well done, Nita! You've really captured the reflective quality and the tranparency of the glass very well. With the 3 color triad, do you mean the three primary colors?

Thanks Evy! Yes, red/blue/yellow, but depending on the pigment they can be so variable in how they look and combine. I don't know the artist's words for off-shades :-)

This is good, N! Since gouache is an opaque medium it is hard to use it to paint transparencies, unless you layer it a bit the way you do with oils.(Unfortunately, gouache is chalky, not 'wet' like oil paints, so the layering capacity is limited, too.) It is great for painting flat areas of color, though!
