Chirico self portrait
I have a book named "500 Self Portraits" and drew this artist, Chirico. I know nothing about him but he has a lot of attitude here.

drawing from a paused video
I really like finding interesting faces while I'm watching a Netflix video, such a great source for drawing practice.
This is Paul Strand, from a documentary on his photography career.

new fish at Hampton
Back in March we had an amazingly warm day in the 70s. I went to Hampton Beach and took this shot of the beach-raking machine and one of the new ornamental fish along the walkway.
I'm loving this warm NH spring! 70s today, we're a full month or more ahead of our usual temperatures. We saved so much on winter heat, it's unprecedented.
And I'm practicing how to post on the new Blogger.

a different chair, for once
I scraped a stamp pad on the page, drew in pencil, then added color with w/c pencils. Some dampening applied.

reshaping a face
I'm playing with drawing a face, but changing some particular element and seeing how different the face becomes--familiar but not right.
In this case, the friend has a longer, more narrow face, but when I came back to look at this drawing, I see it's exactly like someone at work. A subtle morphing.

2 chimps
From the photo on the April Science News. Idle occupation while watching TV, but fun to see how the hands and feet are at the bottom, which I'd never have noticed if I hadn't been drawing the photo.
Mechanical pencil in the journal, which has very smooth paper. I coated this page with Daniel Smith w/c ground--gives it a rough texture for pencil.

trying an acrylic alla prima portrait
Just for my documentation, posting a new experiment in learning. This my first try at a Karen Jurick-style alla prima portrait with strong colors. Though in the Globe photo of Bobby Valentine, his face was almost this red--white hair though, not yellow.
14x14 (but the scanner determined this bit), done in one hour. I had fun doing it and am not going back to tweak details or give him actual teeth, just learning from the process.

interior scene
At a friend's cottage. And yes, it was cold enough in NH to run the woodstove all day. Sigh.

odds and ends
Pasted in the journal. On the newspaper article about LBJ, I drew the picture published with it.
