with just one brushload of color

Random experiment that worked! I filled a #8 round brush with watercolor and walked to another room with my journal to draw something. Found a familiar silhouette in the window, so formed what I saw. What worked best was the direction of my strokes to create the form of fur pattern down his back and along his haunches. An intention that often doesn't work out.

finding a bird in smears and strokes

I rolled Daniel Smith watercolor ground onto a Paper Blanks page, then stroked on a mess of watercolor. After awhile this bird emerged, so I defined him more strongly and gave him some shrubbery.

Ganesha and friends

In Great Barrington, Mass, there is an amazing store full of Asian and Hindu-themed statues and art. I took pictures and drew the little brass Ganesha I bought. The huge Buddha head was too big to bring home. (not pictured)

Pixar's Brave (movie)

Saw it tonight--was soooo good! I had no idea it would be so hilarious--lots of laugh-out-loud bits, plus a good story. Not what I expected, either.

And gorgeous visuals that are a testament to state of the art animation.

Worth seeing! Brave

splitting our own trees for firewood

We hired 2 guys to split the 2 oaks and 1 hickory that have been felled by winter storms. Their huge splitter cut through the trunks like butter. They split the trees into more than a cord and it only took them an hour and a half. Now we have a lot to stack. And waiting for more wood to be delivered. Winter is coming (says the Game of Thrones).
